Repeal Health Care Reform or Curb Abortions

Isn’t it funny how the same people who shouted, “get government out of our healthcare” are trying to put the government inside abortion clinics? Their argument was that government has no right in the patients’ room. Yet that is exactly what they are doing when they try to curb abortion.

Ayn Paul states, “The problem with our current system is that government coercion has infected every facet of medicine, dictating everything from how many doctors are allowed to be licensed to which medical professionals may perform what procedures, to what procedures insurance companies must provide on their plans.”

So if the problem with our current system is that government dictates which procedures medical professionals can perform. But that is exactly what they are proposing when they attempt to curb abortions Again, we have a government dictating to medical professionals which procedures to perform, who can perform them, and who is licensed.

The fact is, government is already entrenched in our health care system. Congress passed the law which mandated Viagara to be covered by health insurance, but not women’s contraception, beast exams, or pap smears. Again, we have a government dictating to the medical professionals which procedures to perform, and which procedures insurance companies must provide on their plans.

The Tea Party’s and Republican’s largest and consistent argument has been, if the Founding Fathers intended for a universal health care, then it would have been written in the Constitution. After all, both of these parties proclaim to be Constitutionalists. Yet they deny the facts that Adams set up a government mandated health care system. In July of 1798, Congress passed, and President John Adams signed, “An Act for the Relief of Sick and Disabled Seamen“. The law authorized the creation of a government operated marine hospital service and mandated that privately employed sailors be required to purchase health care insurance.

So Tea Partiers and Republicans, what do you really want? Do you really want to keep government out of patient care? Then accept the ruling of Roe vs. Wade and move on. Do you really want to stick with the intent of the Founding Fathers and the Constitution? Then remove your false accusations against health care reform. Or do you wish to replace religion with politics and pick and choose which Founding Father and which part of the Constitution you believe in, as with your bible?
